10 ways to win at life’s game
Take responsibility for your dreams, and you will find that goals will become attainable
The only way to ensure a bright future is to improve what we do in the present. To achieve a seemingly impossible dream, we need to make difficult decisions, and act on them.
First, we need to realize what we are and what we’re capable of. Then we need to decide what we want to become, and commit ourselves to the difficult path that will lead us to a better future — even if we are branded “insane” in the process. One of the definitions of insanity is to expect change to occur without changing oneself.
Keep these points in mind and you will find it easier to improve
- Take full responsibility - We’re all great people — it’s simply a matter of harnessing that greatness and using it to get us from where we are now to where we want to be. If you don’t like the current outcome or are unhappy with the way things are in the present, switch your focus away from what happens to you, to what you can do.
- Anything is possible - Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can. Believe in what Swami Vivekanand said: “To believe in yourself is to believe in God.”
- Success leaves clues - One of the great things about living in a world of abundance and opportunity is that someone else has already done almost everything you want to do. Identify such people and learn from them.
- See the future you want - Albert Einstein said: “The significant problems we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” Start visualizing a better future. The visualization will programme your brain to become more aware of anything that will help you achieve your goals. It activates your subconscious mind to create solutions that will help you achieve your goals. Visualization also increases motivation.
- Keep asking for advice - If people say no, you are no worse off than when you started. If they say yes, you’re closer to attaining what you set out to find. And if you’re not getting a good enough response, change the way you ask or seek help from a different set of people.
- Feedback is an advantage - You should ask your family and friends how they see you limiting yourself. Their answers will give you insight for self-improvement.
- Commit to improvement - Keep asking yourself how you can improve, and where you can learn a new skill or develop a new competency.
- Know your path to success - Keep tabs on the five most important things that would advance your personal and professional objectives the most. Follow up on them.
- Practice persistence - ‘Fall down seven times, get up eight times,’ is a famous Japanese adage that’s worth practicing. That is how we all learned to walk. We learn to run in the same way.
- Practice the rule of 5 - Every day, do five specific things that will move you towards achieving your improvement goals.
